Rubicon Grove is an expansive aged care residence owned by Onecare and located in Port Sorell, a few minutes drive from Tasmania’s central northern coast.
RDLA worked closely with the Architectural team at Cykel Architecture to develop a sitewide masterplan that explored opportunities for the expansion of the property to offer a new format of independent living to compliment the existing building.
The approach was to look at the site and its context with “fresh eyes” and develop a unified Landscape and Architectural response that worked and interacted with the distinctive beauty natural character of the Tasmanian coast. These design principles underpinned the siting of new independent living residences with a network of road and pedestrian links, ensuring opportunities for the creation of meaningful landscape spaces across the site. The scheme also addresses the re-connection of the existing building with previously underutilised landscape spaces to enhance opportunities for residents and staff to engage with gardens and landscape.
