Located in rapidly growing Tarneit, in Melbourne’s Western suburbs, the new Homestyle aged care facility is a significant aged care development which was completed in early 2022.
A meandering pedestrian path links the landscape and connects a series of activity nodes and gathering spaces through the site including interconnected landscape spaces, display gardens, water features, internal courtyards, a play space, two dementia specific sensory gardens and a range of outdoor recreational amenities. A formal entry driveway and carpark is planted with new canopy trees set within structural soil vaults and permeable paving.
The landscape scheme includes the planting of over 300 new canopy trees throughout the site forming the backbone of the new landscape setting which is underplanted with a broad range of native plants and display gardens. This extensive planting initiative will provide significant long term amenity for the site and surrounds and much needed shade in the summer months as well as seasonal variety and colour for the future residents and staff to enjoy.
Strong links and views from the internal recreation spaces and living areas to the landscape were a key objective for the Architectural design team which was led by Smith and Tracey Architects. The landscape materials and planting were closely co-ordinated with the Architectural scheme to achieve a unified and well resolved building and landscape presentation.
Our team were involved from the outset over a number of years, developing the initial landscape masterplan for the site, landscape town planning documentation and then the subsequent detailed design, construction and implementation phases of the project.
