Geelong Lutheran College Senior Forecourt

All Projects

Geelong Lutheran College is a P-12 campus located in Armstrong Creek, approximately 1 hours drive west of Melbourne.  As part of the ongoing development of the campus the Year 11-12 Centre building was proposed located on a steeply sloping site within the existing campus. The brief was to create a significant outdoor learning and gathering space for the senior student cohort to compliment the new building.

The design response required careful resolution of levels and grading and features a large terraced seating structure which forms a curved amphitheatre suitable for informal seating, assemblies and events.  The careful resolution of levels and layout of the terraced seating enabled the creation of a lower forecourt and circulation space that extends from the new building.  A series of graded circulation paths were also carefully considered in order to maintain appropriate accessibility to the adjoining grounds and buildings. A new garden was also established as part of the works, planted with native grasses, shrubs and a stand of new Eucalyptus trees, Eucalyptus leucoxylon ‘Rosea’.

RDLA were engaged by the school to prepare and initial concept design and subsequent detailed documentation for tender and construction as well as site supervision during construction.
