Donald MacDonald Reserve

All Projects

Donald MacDonald Reserve is a small recreation reserve and play space nestled in a grove of Coastal Tea Tree and beautiful gum trees in Beaumaris.

Our team was engaged by Bayside City Council to undertake the design and documentation of the proposed upgrade works and provide input and review through the construction phase.

Central to the design response was to upgrade to the play experience but rest the works gently in the existing landscape setting.  The design paid careful attention to the protection and integration of the play space with the existing vegetation.  In places, the rambling tea tree trunks form informal seating and play elements themselves, providing a strong link to the lovely natural setting and character of the site.  The new play space features water play elements, sandpit, climbing and balancing challenges, swings, a slide and a central tower which lifts visitors up in to the tree canopy and allows views across the reserve.
